In observance of Autism Awareness Month, over 350 educators, advocates and families attended the Region One Education Service Center (Region One) Annual Autism Conference on April 18 at the Region One Conference Center in Edinburg. Participants gained insights into the latest information about Autism, with a focus on educational strategies and support services for students.
The Region One Education Service Center Board of Directors canvassed votes from the Board of Directors election during the regularly scheduled meeting held April 17, 2024. Three board seats were up for re-election: Place 1 (Hidalgo County), Place 4 (Hidalgo County) and Place 7 (Brooks & Willacy Counties). Each incumbent retained their positions.
After earning first place in the Annual Regional Texas Citizen Bee held at Region One Education Service Center in March, McAllen ISD Achieve Early College High School student Athena Guiam will represent the region in the state competition on April 20 in Austin.
Workforce and education leaders gathered at Region One Education Service Center April 16, 2024 to uncover insights and trends in aligning education and career pathways from K-12 education to the workforce.
Area elementary students competed in Region One’s first elementary esports competition April 13 at the Region One Conference Center in Edinburg. Battling it out to be named inaugural champions, students showed off their Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe skills in two respective tournaments.
Region One Education Service Center (Region One) was awarded a total of $4.2 million for the next three years by the US Department of Education (USDE) through the newly created Perkins Innovation and Modernization, Career Connected High Schools (CCHS) grant program. School districts stakeholders, industry partners and higher education representatives gathered at the Region One Conference Center in Edinburg March 25, 2024 to celebrate the award.
Empowering students to find their voice, the Region One GEAR UP Program wrapped up its innovative creative workshop series, coined rethINK, on March 22, 2024 at the South Texas College Mid-Valley Campus in Weslaco. The workshops were designed to broaden its freshman cohort’s perspectives and foster self-expression – key elements needed to write effective college entrance and scholarship essays.
