STARS
 
Stars Scholarship Fund is dedicated to providing successful futures for local students. Stars was established to offer students an equal opportunity for advancement in higher education. Scholarships provide deserving students the ability to achieve success at the college of their choice.
 
SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA


  • Be a U.S. citizen or a legal permanent resident with a permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551.
  • Be a permanent resident (5 or more consecutive years) of and have a permanent South Texas address in one of our 22 counties.
  • Have earned/completed at least 12 undergraduate credit hours at a U.S. accredited college or university before applying for the scholarship.
  • Have a minimum college cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Have completed a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to the Fall of the new academic year.
  • Are enrolled in a U.S. accredited 2 yr. community college (enrolled part-time or full-time) in a degree-seeking program, or a 4yr. university undergraduate program (enrolled full-time) seeking a Bachelor’s Degree, or a university graduate program (enrolled full-time) seeking a Master’s, Law or Doctorate degree.

Scholarship Programs Available:

Community College Part-Time: Students who will be attending a Community College for the new academic year and will be enrolled 6+ hours during each semester.

Community College Full-Time: Students who will be attending a Community College for the new academic year and will be enrolled 12+ hours during each semester.*

Undergraduate Full-Time: Students who will be attending a university for the new academic year in an undergraduate (Bachelor’s) program and will be enrolled 12+ hours during each semester.*

Graduate Full-Time: Students who will be attending a university for the new academic year in an graduate (Master’s, Law or Doctoral) program and will be enrolled 9+ hours during each semester.*

Free Books For Read Across America Day
 The Literacy Empowerment Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization,invites your school or other literacy project to apply for FREE books forRead Across America Day. During the past year, LEF has distributed over3,000,000 books to schools all across the country for Read Across America Day and other literacy projects.

Resources are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Orders must bereceived by February 16th, 2013.

GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program

Honoring the legacy and character of our nation’s 40th President, the GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program rewards college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with financial assistance to pursue higher education. Each year, the Program selects numerous recipients to receive a $10,000 scholarship renewable for up to an additional three years – up to $40,000 total per recipient. Awards are for undergraduate study only, and may be used for education-related expenses, including tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, and board. In addition, Scholars are invited to participate in a special awards program.

To be eligible for this award, applicants must:

• demonstrate at school, at the workplace, and within the community the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship;
• demonstrate strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 grade point average/4.0 scale or equivalent);
• demonstrate financial need;
• be citizens of the United States of America;
• be high school seniors attending high school in the United States and graduating in winter 2012 or spring 2013; and
• plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study toward a bachelor’s degree at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States for the entire 2013-2014 academic year.
