• Chemical and Environmental Instrumentation Session 1

During this training teachers visited the Texas State Technical College to learn about the career opportunities that are available to students in our region.  The academic core programs that students obtain at this campus will provide bridges to many degrees and career opportunities.

Teachers experienced the use of computerized testing procedures, such as atomic absorption, gas chromatography, infrared and mass spectroscopy.  They spent the day as students in a lab analyzing various materials using standard procedures and instrumental procedures and then calculating and reporting their chemical analyses of their products.  They learned about the demand for chemical/environmental technicians and how this career has grown due to the need in scientific research and development and production of technical products.  Students may be able to seek employment in various areas as a chemical/environmental technician such as in research, testing and quality control of a wide range of products, including petroleum, plastics, pharmaceuticals and semi conductors.
