Region One ESC Receives GEAR UP Grants to Support Class of 2031

Region One Education Service Center is launching a new round of college readiness support to students at over 20 area school systems over the next seven years through two recently awarded GEAR UP grants. School systems and industry partners kicked off the new initiatives with a special presentation on Monday, Oct. 20, 2025 at the Region One ESC Conference Center in Edinburg.

Texas Education Agency Launches New Hotline to Support Students Experiencing Homelessness 

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has launched Texas Education for Homeless Children and Youth (TEHCY) Support, a comprehensive statewide initiative designed to provide direct assistance to families and educators supporting students experiencing homelessness under the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.

Region One ESC Awarded $175,000 National Grant to Empower Rural School Collaboratives

Region One Education Service Center (Region One) has been awarded a three-year, $175,000 Civic Hub grant from the Trust for Civic Life, a national organization dedicated to supporting rural communities. Announced on September 16, 2025, the funding will support travel, materials, and resources needed to strengthen Region One’s Rural School Collaboratives, which provide expanded college and career pathways for students in South Texas’s rural areas.

Mission Residents get costs covered by Mission EDC to pursue teacher certification through Region One

Mission residents Evelyn Sackey and Ciro Ramos are one step closer to becoming certified teachers after the Mission Economic Development Corporation (EDC) presented a $10,000 check on Sept. 17, 2025, to cover their program fees through Region One Education Service Center’s Teacher Alternative Certification Program.
