Local agencies and school districts are supporting individuals seeking teacher certification by partnering with Region One Education Service Center’s (Region One) Teacher Alternative Certification Program. Through these partnerships, Region One will prepare 25 aspiring K-12 teachers at no cost to participants.

The Hidalgo County Community Service Agency has awarded more than $47,000 in direct student assistance to support adults re-enrolling in high school through Region One Education Service Center's Dropout Recovery Initiative. The funding helps reduce barriers for adult learners working to complete their education and work toward high-wage, in-demand careers.
Area school systems are recruited candidates to fill their vacancies at the Region One ESC Educator Job Fair on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at the Region One Conference Center in Edinburg.
Region One Education Service Center (Region One) and South Texas College (STC) have been recognized for their sustained collaboration in support of Donna, Hidalgo, Roma and Valley View students with a “Building Pathways Proof Points” grant, awarded by Texas Impact Network via the Commit Partnership with funding from the Gates Foundation. Two million will be invested in strategies aimed at increasing postsecondary readiness, including removing testing barriers. The grant is designed to increase access to early college pathways, improve postsecondary advising, and enhance data infrastructures and data use to deepen the partnership between participating school districts and higher education institutions, ultimately providing collaborative exemplars for the state of Texas.
Region One Education Service Center (Region One) met with its partners and formally designated an Advisory Board to support its role as the Tri-Agency Regional Convener for Workforce Development Area 21, which includes Jim Hogg, Webb, and Zapata Counties. The meeting took place at Region One ESC in Laredo on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
Region One Education Service Center Executive Administrator for Partnerships, Marketing and Communication, Arianna Vazquez-Hernandez, has been named a finalist for the National School Communicator of the Year Award by the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA). This prestigious honor recognizes individuals whose leadership, strategic expertise and unwavering commitment have made a transformative impact on the school systems and the communities they serve.
Middle and high school robotics teams representing the Region One Education Service Center will compete at the 2025 VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. High school teams will compete May 6-8, and middle school teams will compete May 9-11.
