Brownsville ISD, United ISD, Valley View ISD students recognized for Winter Wonderland Artwork

Donna community members gathered Friday, Nov. 21 along the Hike & Bike Trail to celebrate the support of Region One Education Service Center's Community Foresty initiative and participate in a community tree planting. Fifty-five trees were distributed to Donna residents to plant at their homes.

Area rural school districts are joining forces to enhance career and technical education (CTE) to their students through the Texas Education Agency's Rural Pathway Excellence Partnerships (R-PEP) program, which allows rural school districts to enter into agreements with other school districts to develop rural college and career pathway partnerships.

Region One Education Service Center has been awarded $1,181,667 from the Texas A&M Forest Service Community Forestry Grants Program to expand tree planting, resident education and urban forestry initiatives across seven Rio Grande Valley cities.

Sharyland ISD Assistant Principal Jessica Veliz describes her path to school leadership as one that developed step-by-step through classroom and campus-based experience. A recent participant of the Region One Education Service Center's New Administrator Academies, she started out teaching sixth and seventh grade Reading, Writing and Science for six years, and then joined  B.L. Gray Junior High as a campus administrator.

Mercedes Independent School District has been named a two-time recipient of the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) Texas Strategic Staffing Grant for its Teacher Residency Program. The district has selected the Region One Education Service Center’s Teacher Alternative Certification Program as its official Educator Preparation Program (EPP) partner for this initiative.

Region One Education Service Center is launching a new round of college readiness support to students at over 20 area school systems over the next seven years through two recently awarded GEAR UP grants. School systems and industry partners kicked off the new initiatives with a special presentation on Monday, Oct. 20, 2025 at the Region One ESC Conference Center in Edinburg.

Four alumni representing Edcouch–Elsa ISD, Pharr–San Juan–Alamo (PSJA) ISD, and Weslaco ISD were recognized on Oct. 17, 2025, at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance to mark the start of their EKG and HVAC internships.
