Mercedes ISD, Progreso ISD, Santa Rosa ISD and Vanguard Academy recently received a combined $1,940,000 in state funding through the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) Community Partnerships Grant. According to TEA, the funding supports significant improvements in educational and developmental outcomes for children by expanding access to wraparound services, strengthening family and community partnerships and increasing access to academic supports.

Donna ISD freshman, McAllen ISD middle school students advance to Texas Civics State Competition

Alessandra Belmares, a freshman at Donna High School, earned first place at the Texas Citizen Bee, demonstrating strong knowledge of U.S. history, government, and civic principles. The regional competition was held March 25 at the Region One ESC Conference Center in Edinburg, where she received a $250 gift card and secured her spot at the Texas Citizen Bee State Competition, scheduled April 16–18 in Austin.

Pharr EDC Contributes $189,000 to Support 45 Aspiring Teachers Through Region One ESC Partnership

The Pharr Economic Development Corporation (EDC) contributed $189,000 to the Region One Education Service Center teacher alternative certification program to support 45 aspiring teachers who live or work in Pharr. The funding will help cover partial program costs for participants pursuing certification over the next two years.

Elementary, Middle School Teams Advance to Robotics World Championship

Two student robotics teams representing the Region One area have clinched spots at the VEX Robotics World Championship after competing in the regional robotics championship held March 10, 2026, at the Region One Education Service Center Conference Center in Edinburg. Grulla Elementary School secured a place in the elementary division, while Harmony Science Academy – Brownsville will represent the region in the middle school division.
