  • The Region One STEM Center of South Texas recruited 21 WeTeach_CS Collaborative Teachers (CSCTs) to participate in a new WeTeach_CS initiative that is part of the Texas Regional Collaboratives for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching (TRC). WeTeach_CS is a program of the University of Texas at Austin’s Center for STEM Education, a research, teaching, and service unit located in the College of Education. The goal of the WeTeach_CS program is to provide intensive and sustained K-12 professional development for Texas Computer Science teachers with a focus on the following measurable outcomes:

    • To increase the number of certified Computer Science teachers in Texas, in support of the nation’s CS for All initiative;
    • To increase the number of high schools that offer CS;
    • To increase the number of students that enroll in HS CS courses;
    • To broaden and diversify student enrollment in CS courses to open doors for EVERY student; and
    • To expand coding, programming, computational thinking, and CS opportunities for students in grades K-8 to build a pipeline for the CS pathway in the STEM endorsement.
