    STEM Camp 2018 Presentations

    During the Summer of 2018, the Region One STEM Center of South Texas will host 3 STEM Coding Camps for Girls who are currently in grades 6-8 and enrolled in a Texas school. The purpose of each camp is to offer hands-on experiences that provide challenging and innovative concepts in learning, problem solving, and analytical skills while fostering an interest in computer coding/programming. Girls who attend the camp will learn how to write code and program robots, drones and computers.

    FAQ

    When is the deadline to apply?
    July 6, 2018, 5 PM (central standard time)

    When will I be notified of acceptance?
    Parents/guardians will be notified by email of either acceptance or non-acceptance by July 17, 2018.

    Will selection be based on good grades? OR Will selection be first-come-first-serve?
    No. Selection will be made by lottery. All students who applied by the deadline will have an equal chance to be selected.

    How many girls can attend the camps?
    Each camp will serve up to 36 girls.

    Is there transportation available?
    No. All transportation to and from the camp locations is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.

    Can my son attend?
    No. Unfortunately, this opportunity which is funded by a grant from Texas Workforce Commission, is only available to females.

    Can my 5th grader attend? OR Can my 9th grader attend?
    No. These camps are only open to RISING (grade on the 1st day of camp) 6th, 7th and 8th graders.

    Will meals be provided?
    Yes. We will be providing breakfast and lunch each day.

    What are the times?
    The camps run from 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM each day, Monday - Friday for 1 week.

    Can my daughter attend more than 1 camp?
    No. We want to provide this opportunity to as many students as we can.

    What is the cost?
    The camps are FREE.
