Region One ESC, at the local level, supports the efforts of the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Division of School Improvement (SI), formerly known as the Program Monitoring and Interventions Division. Our staff provides supports to the state’s goals for public education in their efforts to review, evaluate, monitor, and intervene with campuses and their districts to ensure excellence in education for all students. The major responsibilities of the division include monitoring and interventions for:
- state accountability, including federal requirements,
- the bilingual education/English as a second language, career and technical education, Every Student Succeeds Act, and special education program areas, and
- data validation.
TEA conducts on-site visits to address concerns related to documented substantial, imminent, or ongoing risks reflected in current and longitudinal district data. They monitor federal programs as required by the United States Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (USDE-OCR) and provide information and guidance to districts who are identified for an on-site visit. This information is located in the On-site Review Procedures Manual. Region One ESC delivers technical assistance to our local schools and districts in preparation for these visits.
Additionally, the TEA Division of School Improvement supports activities related to the assignment of accreditation statuses to districts, oversees and supports required interventions for struggling campuses, and conducts special accreditation investigations. Resources intended for District Coordinator's of School Improvement (DCSI) are archived online in the DSCI links at the left.
