In 2019-2020, the first year of this initiative, Region One was partnered with Hidalgo ISD to provide a series of professional learning offerings including workshops and instructional coaching/mentoring to educators and parents of early childhood classrooms. Currently, all Region One ESC area districts/charter schools, Head Start and Learning Centers are able to receive RECESS services we offer services free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Additional supports include:

    • literacy development
    • family engagement
    • access to books
    • expanded learning

Our RECESS Specialist is working closely with cohorts of literacy coaches, school and district administrators, and parents to expand RECESS to more sites. (Learn more: https://www.esc1.net/Page/5922)

Participants receive guidance on use of structured literacy sessions conducted by classroom teachers, parent liaisons, and parents as co-facilitators.
