Telehealth during COVID-19
The new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‑19) that is causing an outbreak of respiratory illness worldwide, has shut down many businesses, schools, and programs around the country. The Region One Education Service Center Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) program is working diligently to ensure your child does not experience a lapse in ECI services during this time. The ECI program will use a telehealth system to provide your child’s therapy services in the event that you request that services are not delivered in-person. Telehealth is the delivery of services using distance technology by use of a computer and/or telephone when the therapist, child, and caregiver are not in the same physical location. Service providers may include Early Intervention Specialists, Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Physical Therapists.
Benefits to Telehealth:
Continue to engage with parent, routine caregiver, and child.
Continue to foster caregiving skills by focusing on the intervention in caregiver-child interactions
Reduce cancellations due to a family member’s minor illness or provider minor illness, weather, natural disasters, and/ or pandemics.
Continue to utilize the coaching method to deliver ECI services.
How This Works:
We will obtain a signed consent to provide ECI services through Telehealth. This consent will be sent to the parent and/or routine caregiver via email and will be kept in the child’s record.
An updated calendar would be provided for parents to schedule appointments for all planned services on the IFSP.
We will continue to provide Targeted Case-Management services to address any new or ongoing family needs that we may encounter.

Privacy and Security Efforts:
Security procedures will be followed to protect the confidentiality of client information and to safeguard information against intentional or unintentional corruption.
Child and/or family progress reports, assessments, or other intervention-related documents will be uploaded to the child’s record. Any documents sent will be sent by encrypted email or by regular mail.
