in collaboration with the Army funded UNITE program, will host the Annual Pre-College Engineering Summer Program. The program encourages and prepares students to pursue a college education in engineering and related fields, as part of a national initiative to develop a talented and trained STEM workforce. Region One STEM Services align and support the core goals of the Effective Schools Framework (EFS). Under the effective instructional lever at the core of the EFS framework, STEM services are designed to support effective classroom routines & instructional strategies modelled in all STEM related staff development and support services. These strategies include 1) aggressive student monitoring and formative assesssment 2) student-to-student discussions 3) strategic prompts and questioning 4) flexibible classroom procedures and roles, and 5) innovative routines such as blended learning, design thinking, and fluid learning environments. These strategies are encompassed within a project-based approach to deliver high-quality, rigorous, learning experiences that promote 21st century skills development in all students.

Statewide Listening Tour for Work-Based Learning and STEM

Access meeting resources here: https://tea.texas.gov/ListenTourWBLandSTEM/TEA is excited to announce that the College and Career and Military Preparation (CCMP) Division is conducting a statewide listening tour to inform the development of a new state plan required for the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V), and the development of statewide frameworks for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education and Work-Based Learning (WBL). Starting in December 2018 and continuing through May 2019, the team hopes to gather information and feedback from stakeholders across the state on the major components of Perkins V, as well as current challenges and areas of success around implementing and expanding high-quality STEM and Work-Based Learning to all students in Texas.Thank you for attending this event that brought together 300+ members of the grown STEM community in the Rio Grande Valley.
