Summit Keynote Speaker
2020 STEM Summit Keynote
Michelle Sedberry is the STEM Coordinator at the Texas Education Agency. Michelle has a Graduate Certificate in Multidisciplinary Science focused on bilingual math and science and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. She has been in education for over 20 years as a classroom science teacher, district administrator, regional science specialist, and adjunct science professor at Texas Tech University. She is the published author of Creating Future Engineers through Elementary Engineering Professional Development and has published four science curriculum guides winning the Tammie Silver Award in 2018. As an advocate for STEM Education in the state of Texas, Michelle is helping to build a statewide network of strategic stakeholders through the Texas EcosySTEM Network.

We are grateful for all submissions. Session selections were based on the following general topics:
- Classroom best practices for K-12 STEM Learning
- Increasing access and equity in STEM
- Technology integration for the STEM Classroom
- STEM community outreach and informal education
- STEM career pathways and Work-based LearningRegistration will be waived for all accepted presenters for the 2020 STEM Summit. Submit a proposal today! (deadline is December 31, 2019). -
Presenters
We are using the SCHED app for the conference. Many of you already have profiles on the app and I already associated you as the speaker of your session. Simply go to “My Events” and look for the “2020 South Texas STEM Summit.”
If you do not have a profile, then please create one and then look for the event above and make sure to pair your profile with the name I have listed on your session.
The general link for the conference app is https://2020southtexasstemsummit.sched.com/. It is still in the draft form, so there may be some changes between now and the conference. Your session time and location WILL NOT change though. As a reminder, ALL of the sessions are scheduled for the 2nd day of the conference (February 21st) only.
You have the following Speaker Tools at your disposal when you click on “manage & promote your session:”
- See the time and location of your session. Room maximum capacities are as follows: 1st Floor – Conference Room (40) and Key Largo (25); 2nd Floor – Sabal (50), Paradise (50), Royal (50), Majestic (50).
- View the attendees who have scheduled your session.
- Tweet or share your session on social media.
- Edit your profile.
- Add your presentation or any file that you would like to share with your attendees.
Let me know if there are any changes that need to be made to the session.
As an attendee, please use the app to schedule the rest of your conference experience!
Please note these important directions
- Although the registration fee is waived for you, we require that all presenters and co-presenters register for the 5th Annual South Texas STEM Summit. The registration link for WS 129898 is https://apps.esc1.net/ProfessionalDevelopment/RegionOne/Registration/Workshop/%20129898. Type in “presenter” for the purchase order when registering. Please visit our website at www.esc1.net/stemsummit for hotel and other conference information.
- Make sure to sign-in before your presentation at the Registration Table on the 2nd floor! You will get a Presenter’s Packet at that time.
- Your presentation room will have a screen, speakers, power source, and a projector. Additional needs such as a laptop and A/V adaptors must be provided by the presenter.
- You are the main and only contact, please communicate all updates and information with your co-presenters.
- NO presentations may be cancelled after February 14, 2020, except for extenuating circumstances. Cancellation after the deadline may result in the presenter’s proposals not being considered for future Region One conferences.
- There will be a hospitality area for you (1st floor Boardroom) where you can store your items and grab some snacks for Friday only. The people with the keys for this room will be me (stationed in the hall), the ladies at the Registration Table on the 2nd floor, and Mr. Gustavo Perez (floating around).
- MOST of the attendees should have their own devices with them. If you need devices for your session, please check them out at the Conch room on the 2nd floor with Mr. Ben Avalos. We have a limited number of Dell laptops, Chromebooks, and iPads available.

Select from over 30+ sessions and seminars designed to expand your capacity to offer STEM focussed lessons, programs, and outreach initiatives. Sessions will cover a broad range of topics for both educators and administrators seeking practical and field-tested solutions.
Robotics Teacher Tournament
Gather a team of 4 and take part in the Robotics teacher tournament. The tournament will feature local FIRST robotics student teams as your guides. Pre-register your team of 4 today by sending an email to gperez@esc1.net. to secure a time slot. Limited slots are available. Visit the Robotics arena and enjoy watching teams and the course challenges.
Esports Teacher Tournament
Gather a team of and take part in the STEM eSPORTs teacher tournament. The eSPORTs tournament will feature leading eSPORTs gaming platforms. Pre-register your team of 4 today by sending an email to Maggie Ojeda, mojeda@esc1.net to secure a time slot. Visit the STEM playground and enjoy watching teams battle for points.
Rocket Build & Launch
