The Sharyland Pioneer High School Mock Trial Team claimed the top spot at the Region One Annual Mock Trial Competition, held on Jan. 25, 2025 at the Hidalgo County Courthouse. Demonstrating sharp legal skills, the team presented compelling arguments and strategic reasoning to secure the top spot and qualify for the state competition on March 7 and 8 in Dallas. Joining their sister school in Dallas, Sharyland High School clinched second place, with McAllen High School also qualifying to compete.
Region One Education Service Center (Region One) was awarded $119,000 from the Rio-South Texas Education and Community Development Foundation to help strengthen the teacher workforce in the eight-county service area. With these funds, Region One's Educator Preparation & Development Program will help certify 25 individuals in grades 7-12 science and math at no cost to participants.
Anthony Germain was 17 when he dropped out of high school. “I wanted to earn the trust of others,” Germain said. “I knew I needed to do some work internally and externally. Education was part of that process.”
Bringing their classroom learning to life, over 200 elementary students immersed themselves in hands-on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025 at the Region One Education Service Center in Edinburg. Students worked together to assemble, code and create projects that illustrate complex concepts.
As part of its commitment to sustainable procurement practices and educational gardening work, Region One Education Service Center (Region One) received $250,000 from nonprofit Growing Justice to assist with the purchasing of nutritious food from local, sustainable farms and businesses supporting underserved communities.
