Region One ESC recognized newly sworn-in board members Velinda Reyes, Ruben Cortez Jr. and Richard E. Zayas, and announced its 2026-27 officers: Chairperson Dr. Manuel Gomez Jr., Vice Chairperson Alicia E. Requenez and Secretary Sonia A. Falcon.

Region One Education Service Center is helping school systems and teacher certification programs design and implement sustainable paid teacher residency programs that provide future educators with meaningful classroom experience, mentorship and a stronger pathway into the profession.

Roma ISD Superintendent Carlos M. Gonzalez Jr. was selected as the Region One nominee for the 2026 Superintendent of the Year award.
Gonzalez will represent the Region One area in the statewide award program, which recognizes exemplary Texas superintendents for excellence and achievement in educational leadership. He will advance alongside 19 other regional nominees from across the state.
- Professional Development
Teach For America (TFA) and alumni now have a direct pathway to continue their impact as educational leaders through Region One Education Service Center’s Principal Alternative Certification Program, designed to prepare educators for campus leadership through coaching and leadership development.
