Region One Education Service Center is launching a new round of college readiness support to students at over 20 area school systems over the next seven years through two recently awarded GEAR UP grants. School systems and industry partners kicked off the new initiatives with a special presentation on Monday, Oct. 20, 2025 at the Region One ESC Conference Center in Edinburg.

Four alumni representing Edcouch–Elsa ISD, Pharr–San Juan–Alamo (PSJA) ISD, and Weslaco ISD were recognized on Oct. 17, 2025, at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance to mark the start of their EKG and HVAC internships.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has launched Texas Education for Homeless Children and Youth (TEHCY) Support, a comprehensive statewide initiative designed to provide direct assistance to families and educators supporting students experiencing homelessness under the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. 

Eight area campuses were named 2025 Lone Star Ribbon Schools, a statewide honor recognizing academic performance and measurable progress in closing achievement gaps. Governor Greg Abbott announced 28 honorees on September 29, 2025. 

Rio Grande City Grulla ISD hosted a ribbon cutting on Sept. 23, 2025, to recognize the opening of the LEAD Center, a new campus for students between 18–26 years of age who want to return to school and earn a high school diploma.
