Sebastian Salazar, Brownsville ISD student

Brownsville ISD Junior Sebastian C. Salazar was selected by the Texas State School Safety Center as one of eight top youth leaders to serve as a Teen Ambassador Youth Advisory Board Member, participating in a first-of-its-kind program to help create safer schools. Salazar is the only student ambassador from south of Austin serving in this capacity.

Region One Education Service Center (Region One) is now supporting school systems with substitute teacher services for pre-kindergarten classrooms. Currently, the Region One SubHub Program is serving La Joya, Edcouch-Elsa and Monte Alto school districts with certified pre-kindergarten subs, while providing a total of 10 school systems and one licensed childcare center with staffing solutions across Hidalgo and Cameron counties.

Region One Education Service Center (Region One) was awarded nearly $5 million from the U.S. Department of Education to expand access to school-based mental health services for students, which includes training for counselors, social workers and other mental health professionals. This funding bolsters Region One’s efforts to address the shortage of mental health providers in the region and build the capacity of educators.
