    Program for Visual Impairments

    Purpose

    The Special Education component for Visually Impaired (VI) Services is designed to provide training and coordinated services to educators of students, age 0 to 21, who are Visually Impaired, Blind, or Deaf/Blind.

     

    Services

    Technical Assistance:

    • Assist districts with TEA VI Registration
    • Assist districts with the Deaf/Blind Census
    • Acquistion of APH materials
    • Assistive Technology Loan Program
    • Interagency Coordination

    Training:

    • Staff Development
    • Parent Training
    • Early Childhood Interventionist Training

    Direct Itinerant Instruction:

    • Orientation and Mobility Instruction
    • Visually Impaired Instruction

    Assessments:

    • Provide technical support for assistive device considerations
    • Coordinate Low Vision Clinics
    • Orientation and Mobility Evaluations
