Educator Appraisal Certification Programs
To appraise teachers in Texas, campus administrators must hold certification for both the Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL) or Instructional Leadership Development (ILD) and Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS). To appraise campus administrators, one must hold certification for the Texas Principal Evaluation and Support System (T-PESS). This page provides information about AEL. Pages for T-TESS and T-PESS may be accessed separately.
Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL) is organized to assist administrators with the implementation of T-TESS. Participants of AEL will recognize the relationship between the seven strands of school leadership and five conceptual themes. AEL has now taken the place of ILD. If you have been certified with ILD, you do not need to be certified with AEL
