Region One Education Service Center helps school boards find exceptional leaders committed to student success. Our team provides a professional, confidential, and customized search process—from posting the position to final selection. We partner with districts to ensure a fair and thorough search that identifies the right superintendent to lead with vision, integrity, and a focus on improving outcomes for all students.

Region One ESC’s Trustee Services Division provides TEA-approved governance training, board development, and customized workshops that help trustees fulfill their legal responsibilities while keeping student achievement at the forefront of decision-making.

Texas Education Code Training Requirements (Continuing Education Credit Reporting) All school trustees are required to comply with the State Board of Education’s (SBOE) continuing education training requirements and maintain records of their completed training. The district serves as the official record keeper for board member continuing education credits. In most districts, this responsibility is managed by the superintendent or the superintendent’s

School Board Annual Required Hours

New Board Member Academy – One Full Day Training

Required Continuing Education
Required within the first 120 days in office (TAC Section 67.1 – Texas Education Agency)

This comprehensive, one-day training is designed to meet all the required continuing education hours for new school board members.

Topics include:

• Orientation to the Texas Education Code

• Evaluating & Improving Student Outcomes

• Sexual Abuse, Human Trafficking, & Other Maltreatment of Children

• Open Meetings Act (OMA)

• Public Information Act (PIA)

Training Details

• Format: One full day (7 hours)

• Time: 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

• Cost: $500 per new board member

• Meals: Includes light breakfast & lunch
