Our Educator Preparation & Development Program provides training and supports for campus and district leadership and those interested in achieving alternative certification as Texas teachers or principals.
The value of our non-traditional programs relies on more than 50 years of partnerships with Region One area school systems. We offer alternative certification for teachers and principals. Each program offers admission to eligible candidates by cohorts throughout the year.
The delivery of our services are a combination of online and face-to-face coursework coupled with mentorship and coaching during field-based practices.

Our 7 Step Process
1 Degree or Certification
To get started Here's what you'll need to enter our program.
- Master's degree with a 3.0 GPA or higher
- 2 years of teaching and leadership experience
- Valid teacher certificate
2 Meet Our Criteria
After clearing step 1 you must take a series of exams and basic skills to being your coursework, which consists of the following.
- Pass Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Exam
- Demonstrate basic reading, writing, and communication skills via screening process
- Submit two reference letters from campus principal and administration
3 Coursework Begins!
From here begins face-to-face coursework and getting ready for the tests to come!

14 months of coursework
- 10 weeks of pre-service coursework prior to field-based experience
4 Test Prep
During this process you prep yourself to meet benchmarks prior to state exams
5 Practicum & Mentorship
During this phase you get one whole year of practicum experience, and a campus principal will serve as your supervisor and mentor!
6 TEXES Exams
The home stretch, here you will take your TEXES exams, which consist of the following.

The victory lap, at this point you complete all program requirements to earn your Texas Principal as Instructional Leader Certificate!

Program fees include a network of educational experts who create and deliver coursework curriculum, field experience supports, and preparation for exams required for certification. Tuition and fee discounts are available for candidates who pay tuition and fees in full within eight months of admission or may choose to make monthly payments.

We also assist those interested in teaching subjects related to careers and technical education, such as trades and industrial skills.
Program Requirements
- Admission essay
- Professional interview
- Minimum of a 2.5 GPA overall or of last 60 hours
- Minimum of 12 semester credit hours in subject specific content area or 15 hours for math and science
- Official transcripts must be sent directly to Region One from the university or college.
- Cannot have been previously employed as a teacher for 3 or more years on a permit, intern or probationary certificate

* What you need to know about a required criminal history background check:
Pursuant to the Texas Education Code (TEC), §22.083, candidates must undergo a criminal history background check prior to clinical teaching, internship and employment as an educator; and pursuant to the Texas Administrative Code (TAC) §227.1(d), an applicant or a candidate who has been convicted of an offense may result in ineligibility for issuance of a certificate on the completion of the program. An applicant or a candidate may exercise the right to request a criminal history evaluation letter. For more information about a preliminary criminal history evaluation, please visit the TEA website.

International Candidates
An applicant who has met the minimum academic criteria through credentials from outside the United States must seek transcript evaluation into a U.S. degree equivalency by an approved TEA credentialing evaluation service. The applicant must also demonstrate English language proficiency by:
- Completion of an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited institution of higher education (IHE) in the United States or one of its territories.
- Verification of a minimum scaled score that falls within the High-Intermediate level in each section on the Test of English as a Foreign Language internet -Based Test (TOEFL-iBT);
- An undergraduate or graduate degree that was earned at an institution of higher education in a country outside of the United States listed in this Figure; or
- A standard certificate issued by the Department of Education in another state where examinations for the certificate were taken and passed.
