Public, private sector join forces to graduate 87 area students as Certified Nurse Assistants

On Friday, August 12, 2022, 87 area high school students graduated as Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs), thanks to the PATHS Program in partnership with South Texas College, Rio Grande Valley College and DHR Health.

The students represented six area participating school districts: Hidalgo ISD, La Joya ISD, Lasara ISD, Lyford ISD, PSJA ISD and Vanguard Academy.

This is the second year of the program, which involves a 5-week course to earn the CNA Certification. As part of the partnership, DHR Health hosted lunch and learn sessions with the participating students to expose them to professionals in the field. Students learned about job expectations and skills set needed to be successful in the profession.

This is the second year RGV College participates in this program and STC's first. Seventy-six students completed their certification through RGV College and 11 from STC, a new cohort piloted by La Joya ISD.
