School finance and operations officials from across the state convened at the South Padre Island Convention Center from July 26 – 28, 2023 for the Region One Education Service Center’s first School Finance & Operations Conference, an event that connects professionals with finance industry insiders for the latest legislative updates and school business best practices.

The two-day conference covered all aspects of school finance and operations through professional development sessions on finance, food and nutrition programs, human resources, operations, purchasing and technology.

Conference sessions broke down front-of-mind concepts and topics school finance officials will face as the school year begins. Session topics included the new 2023 U.S. Office of Management and Budget Compliance Supplement, ESSER Funds, property tax relief, disaster planning and more.

Texas Education Agency Associate Commissioner for Grant Compliance and Administration Cory Green delivered the conference keynote address on grants and unveiled the new risk assessment process for the 2023 – 2024 school year. 

During a breakout session led by TEA representatives, feedback was solicited from conference attendees regarding the implementation of the new process.
