Region One ESC Awarded $3.9 Million to Support Academic Outcomes

Region One Education Service Center (Region One) was awarded a total of $3.9 million by the Department of Education to boost student academic outcomes at Jim Hogg County ISD, Monte Alto ISD, San Isidro ISD, Webb CISD and Zapata County ISD.

The award, which is funded through the Education Innovation and Research Program, will develop, implement and test integrated evidence-based strategies, including social-emotional learning and mental health interventions, at participating districts throughout a five-year period.

"This grant provides us with the opportunity to implement social-emotional education and support students who attend small, rural districts in Region One," said Region One ESC Executive Director Dr. Daniel P. King. "There is solid evidence that providing well-designed social-emotional learning impacts student health and wellness, as well as school climate and culture - ultimately boosting student academic outcomes."
