Ramiro Cantu is an independent writer and director based in McAllen, Tx. He graduated this year from the Options program at Lamar Academy and will be attending the University of Texas at Austin in August. Some of his productions have revolved around domestic abuse, immigration, poverty, and other social issues. His latest short film #RefugeesWelcome focuses on the adversities Syrian Refugees face when seeking refuge in the United States. With only two years in the industry, he has earned a day named after him, more than 8 film awards and several festival selections such as South by Southwest, All American High School Film Festival, and International Crime and Punishment Film Festival. He is currently working in two productions, and will be going to France this summer as an intern at the program where he first learned filmmaking.
